The sustainability issue

"Adequate housing was recognised as part of the right to an adequate standard of living in the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the 1966 International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural

Rights." (UN, Fact Sheet 21)

Homelessness is a social sustainability  and a human rights issue which effects many people's: mental and physical health, wellbeing, safety,

self-esteem, productivity and financial independence.

As educators, it is our responsibility to raise social awareness about those who are disadvantaged and marginalised in our communities.

This learning experience is best suited to grade 12 English students due to the confronting nature of the website that has to be examined to complete the task.  The task addresses principle 5 of the senior syllabus- Inclusion of cultural, social and individual differences, with particular focus on social inclusion.

This learning experience incorporates these general capabilities: personal and social capability, critical and creative thinking, Information Communication and Technology capability and literacy.
